A Lesson from Stanley Kubrick.

Updated: Dec 3, 2019

When script writing for animation and motion graphics projects there's no better inspiration than the absolute classic and visual masterpiece that is Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. With 88 minutes of the film lacking dialogue, it demonstrates perfectly how you can communicate ideas and emotions in a purely visual way.

Too many words and too much noise can really interfere and make your video production feel cluttered and come across as confusing and overly complex.

If you've seen this film look back to the bone throwing shot; after the primate has thrown the bone and while is rotating in mid air we instantly cut to a visually similar space ship... In 1/24th of a second we've transitioned 4 million years without the need for explanation, and it works seamlessly because the two different visuals tell us exactly what has happened without anyone needing to tell us.

While your business may be complex animation and motion graphics can help simplify and create concepts that simplify your story or businesses processes.

While some video production projects do require longer form videos most of them don't or can be broken down into a series of productions.

A good rule of thumb to go by - and please don't attribute this quote to me - is that "If your mother can't understand, it's too complicated".

Don't over complicate. It will only confuse people and prevent them from understanding what you're trying to tell them if it's not simple enough to follow.
